One thing that I love more than anything is home décor and interior design. I loved designing our current home and our recently finished basement. When it came time to plan the nurseries I was SO excited. Waiting for the gender reveal was so painful for me because that was what triggered the green light to purchase everything one needs for a baby nursery… and for those who don’t know me, I have zero patience! While we waited, I literally had tons of Pinterest inspiration for both genders.
For Jax’s room I chose a simple blue and grey colour scheme. Many of the small details found throughout the room, I was able to purchase from Etsy. I wanted some cute pom poms (I loved the way they looked over the crib) and Jax loved looking at them while he was lying down. I also wanted all lowercase letters for his name behind the crib to go under the poms. The crib and dresser set is espresso and white, gender neutral.
We splurged on the mattress for both Hudson and Jax, and got the amazing Nook pure mattress – its core is made from organic coconut which is anti-microbial and liquid resistant. It is also hypoallergenic and chemical free. On top of that, the packaging is nontoxic and chemical free! This video totally sold me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8VK40_MHe0
Had to get the sheets too! It’s an absolute dream of a mattress and is completely breathable even if the baby is face down… a total peace of mind when you hear all the sad stories of SIDS.
I was so in love with the beautiful animal prints we got for his room. It was SO hard to pick just six! They have tons to choose from and you only buy the prints you want, and get them framed yourself. I found my frames at Target in the States and they were the perfect tone to match the colours of the room.
Naturally, any new mom needs a rocking chair and I decided to purchase a nice modern beauty from Baby En Route. Sadly, I have no picture of this other than the one from the site. It was reasonably priced, comfortable and fit so beautifully in the room. I ended up selling it super easy when he grew out of the rocking chair and replaced it with a teepee that he loves hiding in with Hudson. It sits on top of a cozy deep blue shag rug.
Jax has a lovely window seat in his room, so I purchased chevron fabric in grey and white for the seat and then some cushion covers in navy chevron and elephant patterns. I also got this fabric off of Etsy and had it put together locally. Cute, right? Jax just loves sitting on his little window seat reading books. Makes me so happy to see that he loves it as much as I do!
Speaking of books, I simply adore the bookshelf we got him from Crate & Kids. It’s acrylic, on wheels and fits SO MANY BOOKS! Some might say it’s pricey for what it is, but it will last you literally forever. It’s super simple and they could even bring it to their university dorm for text books because it’s so versatile. I love the wheel feature because soon I can wheel it over to Hudson’s room, but I’ll probably get Hudson his own soon anyway.
Finally, the simple light fixture which I also ended up duplicating for Hudson’s room. Another amazing Baby En Route purchase (side note: I might just love their store a wee bit)!
Moving along to Hudson’s room… it is also simple with greys, whites, and various pops of colour. When I found out I was pregnant, I was so excited to create another room! I found these amazing faux animal taxidermy pieces at Target while visiting a friend in the States so picked three up for the wall.
For Hudson’s set, I found a Canadian made brand Dutailier. I purchased the crib and dresser set up which turns into a day bed just like Jax’s so the shelf life will be long, which works well with the amazing Nook mattress.
Like I said, every nursery needs a rocker/glider and for Hudson we found a comfortable white leather glider from Monte Carlo from Fab Baby Gear. Just above I found a canvas print of a map of the world that says “Oh the places you will go”. Another awesome Etsy find! (I LOVE that site too)!
His rug is the cutest from Momemi. All sorts of little animals that he loves pointing to. We also love the little mobile that I purchased from a local mom. I’m a big fan of re-using and recycling wherever possible.
Tell me what you think? I can’t wait for the toddler rooms for both! I know Jax wants Superheroes and Hudson will likely be the same. Show me your nurseries and big boy rooms! I want to see your ideas! Thanks for sharing.
