Christmas shopping for kids is so FUN! Not going to lie, the kids have too many toys, so I normally purge beforehand, and sell/donate some of their old toys. One place I like to donate our toys to is St. Mary’s Home in Ottawa, Ontario. It’s a non-profit organization that supports pregnant youth and young mothers. The home houses 15 homeless young women and 7 newborn infants at a time, assisting 70 young moms with their infants annually.
For items we decide not to donate, we store in the basement and rotate toys so the toy room is a little less overwhelming, and old toys become new and exciting again.
The one big gift that Jax really wanted this year from “Santa” was the Hot Wheels Super Ultimate Garage. He only recently started taking an interest in Hot Wheels after we purchased a Hot Wheels gift for his friend’s birthday and he became obsessed! He hasn’t stopped talking about it since. It’s over 3 feet tall and holds over 140 cars (so naturally we have been collecting Hot Wheels in preparation). Hudson loves playing with Hot Wheels too, so this is a great gift for both of them.
John wanted to get a Nintendo Switch for the kids for a while but I said it wasn’t necessary. I didn’t think they had games for Jax’s age so I figured we could wait. That is, until Shoppers Drug Mart had a Black Friday Sale where if you purchased the console set you’d get back a $125 gift card! How could I pass that up?! After some research, it turns out there are tons in that age category, so we bought it. We bought a bunch of games to go with it, the popular ones like Mario Kart and Mario Odyssey.
We had to spend Christmas money from Grandma and Oma, so we also got some other cool stuff like the Fur Real Munching Rex for Hudson. They are both obsessed with dinosaurs so Hudson will be thrilled. The Rex comes to life and reacts to human touch – so cute!
Amazon Prime made everything seamless for us this Christmas with most of our gifts purchased online. We also got a super cool Air Hockey Game Table from the Showcase As Seen on TV store. Personally, I’m excited to play this one! The kids were playing for almost 30 minutes when we were at the mall visiting Santa.
We saw a cool Magic Tracks set there too, but they didn’t have the largest one so we had to order it on Prime – thank god for Prime! It glows in the dark and goes over uneven surfaces, couches, you name it. Jax and Hudson both couldn’t stop staring at the small one they had at the store so we can’t wait to see their reaction Christmas morning! Storage seems super simple because it’s so flexible and comes apart so easily – perfect for travelling.
Here are some other goodies we got for the boys:
- VTech Light and Flight Discover Globe| A fun and interactive way for little ones to learn about the world and geography.
- Kinetic Sand Folding Sand Box| Love that this little kit can be folded like a suit case and stored away. Makes it super easy to take to grandma’s house too!
- VTech Touch and Teach Word Book| An excellent little interactive book to learn all of your first words.
- Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Serving up Fun Food Truck| Hours of fun for the kiddos on this one guaranteed!
- Wind up Tractor Book| A book that comes to life with a wind-up tractor!
Our kids are so fortunate to have friends and family who want to spoil them! But what’s hard is that their birthdays are mid-January and early February, so I think we will focus on experience gifts like renewing museum and play place memberships for those special days.
Now all that is left to do are the stockings! Are you guys all done your shopping or are you waiting to the last minute? What are the big items on your kids’ Christmas lists this year? I want to hear all about it! And your stocking stuffers too! Looking forward to hearing from you.
