One of the best parts of the holidays is getting together with friends and family … whether that be family dinners, gatherings with friends, work parties or whatever else you be doing! My mother lives close to me and I am so thankful for that. My sister, brother-in-law and two nieces live in New Jersey, but we still manage to see each other once a year at the very least, if not more and Christmas is one of those times!
My mother-in-law lives in Jasper, Alberta and we also see her a couple times of year. Due to her line of work, rarely at Christmas, but this year we were excited and lucky to have her. My late father’s last sibling, Aunt Deedee, always joins us too and we love spending time with her over the holidays as well.
This year, everyone spent Christmas with us, so that was a total of 12 people. That’s huge for us since we have such a teeny little family compared to most. I only have one sibling and John is an only child. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE having a small family. We only have ONE Christmas dinner thank the LORD! When I hear people say they are going to one house on Christmas Eve, another on Christmas and then another relative on Boxing Day I cringe at the thought of all that eating! But that’s just me, and I like my little family set up.
My mother-in-law arrived mid-December and we had a blast visiting before the rest of the crew came. She arrived right on time, saving my life because I was very sick. I don’t know if you guys have caught anything nasty lately but I had such a high fever and sore throat, I literally couldn’t function. You mammas out there know that we don’t get sick days. Just as I thought I was getting better, I threw up for two days straight! I couldn’t eat or leave my bed. Hence why I’ve been MIA lately, sorry! Luckily I recovered, we all recovered, and were raring to get our Christmas on!
My two nieces have such a special relationship with my boys that it’s so fun when we are altogether. They get along wonderfully, but Jax and Olivia seem to connect the most as do Lily and Hudson. I personally think that Jax and Olivia look like they could be siblings. When they arrive it’s a party and we have so much fun dancing and playing games.
On Christmas Eve, instead of Farm Boy for our turkey dinner, we actually decided to go back to the Brookstreet Hotel. Given the amount of people we had over, the Brookstreet option was just better for 14, because there is no way I’m cooking for 14 people!
When we went to Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane’s Elf Village, they gave us magic to sprinkle outside on Christmas Eve night. We did this for the first time last year, and the four cousins frolicked in the snow sprinkling the magic that guides Santa and his reindeer to our house. It was a truly magical moment.
Then came Christmas morning! All the kids were so happy with their gifts and stocking stuffers. Jax has been waiting for months for his Hot Wheels Super Ultimate Garage and was wide-eyed and so excited when he discovered it under the tree. Nevermind it takes up half my great room, it provides legit hours of fun and Hudson also loves it. The table top air hockey table was also a huge hit!
We were sad to see my sister and her family leave on Boxing Day, but unfortunately all good things must come to an end and we have to get ready for the New Year! I usually find after Christmas a little depressing because now it’s just gross winter. But I think I’m excited because our family will soon be travelling to Great Wolf Lodge Niagara Falls for a family vacation! Stay tuned for more on that! I can’t wait to share our adventures with you.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and see you soon in 2019!
