If you read my last blog post you know about my family’s recent vacation to Mexico. With all-inclusive vacations you can eat and drink to your heart’s content. Of course, we did a little too much of both which is common. I must say, I do envy those people that workout at the gym or do the beach runs or aqua-fit classes, but no, I pass them with champagne in hand. I think we all gained a couple pounds on the trip, but worth it for all the fabulous food and drinks!
When we got home from vacation, it was time to buckle down and get back into shape incorporating healthy meal choices again. I thought it would be a great idea to detox my body with a Raw Pulp & Grind 3-day juice cleanse.
I learned from Raw Pulp and Grind that this cleanse nurtures your insides while supplying it with a full range of essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and enzymes. The ingredients used promote detoxification of the liver, kidneys and bowels. By only consuming liquids, this also allows your digestive system to rest and begin to heal. By extracting the fiber, raw juice provides the body with an excellent source of nutrition that is virtually predigested.
I have done this cleanse before and I won’t lie it was hard but I was weak. I shouldn’t say that because it was my first time and I love food! I lasted two full days then threw in the towel and gave the third day to a friend of mine. That said, the third day when I woke up, I regretted this decision and felt I could have gone for that third day no problem. Too little too late, but this time I knew I could do the full three days and sure enough, I did.
I must say the hardest part for me was caffeine and shockingly not wine! There is nothing more soothing to me than my Nespresso double latte every morning. That was truly tough but I substituted it with a hot caffeine free peppermint tea and it wasn’t so bad. Although in normal circumstances I would never give my double latte up. I found the second round of trying this cleanse easier all around.
So, if you tried once and couldn’t do it, I highly encourage trying again. The juices do keep you full and you can have as many waters and non-caffeinated teas as you want in between.
Here are the six juices provided and their ingredients, and benefits associated with them:
- Core Green – Kale, Zucchini, Spinach, Celery, Cucumber, Lemon & Ginger (alkalizing, anti-inflammatory and detoxifying)
- Green Immunity – Kale, Cucumber, Celery, Green Apple, Spirulina, Cayenne & Turmeric (anti-inflammatory, immune boosting and alkalizing)
- Heart Beet – Beets, Orange, Carrot, Apple & Ginger (purifying, immune-boosting and anti-inflammatory)
- Green Apple Chia – Green Apple, Kale, Aloe Juice & Chia (healing, protein and omega 3)
- Rise Up – Red Apple, Pink Grapefruit, Fennel, Ginger (antioxidants, antiviral and digestive aid)
- Coco Cashew Mylk – Cashews, Alkaline Water, vanilla, Coconut, Himalayan Salt (protein, healthy fats, and energy)
Rise Up, Green Apple Chia and Coco Cashew Mylk were my favourites! They do have other juices on top of the ones offered in the cleanse that you can see here.
In hindsight, I wouldn’t do it RIGHT after an all-inclusive vacation because you’re essentially going cold turkey from food, coffee, excess alcohol AND sun. Next time I will just start with healthy eating habits and no alcohol then after a week maybe do the cleanse so it’s gradual.
I want to try their other offerings as I follow them on Instagram and their acai bowls which seem very popular, look amazing!
Have you guys tried RAW in Ottawa, or done any other type of cleanse? I’m curious to hear your thoughts and feedback!
