We are nearing the end of July, which means that fair season has started in the Ottawa area! Our little family kicked off the fair season at this year’s Kanata Ribfest which featured a small scale midway for the first time. This makes the Kanata Ribfest more exciting for the little ones to take part in.
On Canada Day, we usually visit a midway as well. Typically, we go to the Kanata Midway Canada Day celebrations but this year we tried Barrhaven instead because it happened to be open one day earlier for the weekend of celebrations. What I love about Canada Day fairs is that many of them go all weekend starting either Thursday or Friday, so you don’t have to make your entire Canada Day around a midway. Turns out… I really enjoyed the Barrhaven fair, over the Kanata one. It was a large enough size to keep everyone entertained for a few hours but it wasn’t as busy as Kanata (a little more our speed).
Jax is such a little daredevil, he goes on so many crazy rides even the tilt-a-whirl with no fear and he just barely made the height! He looked a little whoozy to me but then asked to go again! Hudson is just starting to enjoy rides and when he’s scared, Jax holds him and makes it all ok. It’s truly the sweetest thing that melts my heart. Nevermind that they were just battling with foam swords moments earlier trying to kill each other, it’s all about balance!
Warning! Parents be prepared to spend easily over $100 or more for a couple of hours of fun. And soon enough with Hudson enjoying rides more it will cost even more than that! You spend ridiculous amounts on the games to get dollar store stuffies (which I have WAY too many of already) but you’re paying for the experience and it’s such a fun day out. Not to mention how excited and happy the little ones are playing those games and winning those god awful stuffies that they love so much.
In Ottawa and surrounding area we actually have quite a few that are starting. I haven’t been to all of them but here are some that are coming:

We always do the Capital Fair which is the larger one for the Ottawa area that last’s the longest. I’ve also been to the Shawville Fair and Richmond Fair, all of which we love. Looks like from this list, we still have many others to test out.
What about your family? Do you enjoy the local fairs? And if you’re in the Ottawa area, what are your favourites that you frequent and why?
I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
